Abstract
This article aims to answer the following questions: how can the Void be represented? Why does the sight of the Void have an intense effect on the viewer? Does the Void only designate lack? What is the relationship between pictorial art and contemplation? The work of contemporary Franco-Chinese artist, Gao Xingjian helps to answer these questions, encouraging the spectator to rediscover the silence of their soul, to be absorbed by it and to meditate.
